Comhar SDC Report- Creating Green Infrastructure for Ireland

Comhar have launched a research report focusing on Green Infrastructure, entitled ‘Creating Green Infrastructure for Ireland’. The report sets out a broad definition of Green Infrastructure and explores and proposes an approach and a set of principles that should be followed in Green Infrastructure planning.

This leaflet provides background information on a Green Infrastructure approach. It first outlines the benefits for biodiversity, and then explores how Green Infrastructure can help us adapt to climate change, and provide economic, social and health benefits. Biodiversity and Ecosystems – Ireland’s Undervalued Economic Assets

Recently Comhar Sustainable Development Council (SDC) hosted a conference on the global study ‘The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB)’.  This major international initiative aims to draw attention to the global economic benefits of biodiversity; to highlight the growing costs of biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation, and to draw together expertise from the fields of science, economics and policy to enable practical actions moving forward.  In the latest commentary from Comhar SDC, guest commentator Dr. Cathy Maguire – Director of Research with Comhar SDC – looks at how biodiversity and ecosystems are an undervalued economic asset for Ireland.

Comhar SDC The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity Conference

Comhar SDC would like to invite you to attend a conference on The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity on the 24th June 2010.  

The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) study is a major international initiative to draw attention to the global economic benefits of biodiversity, to highlight the growing costs of biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation, and to draw together expertise from the fields of science, economics and policy to advance practical action to address the biodiversity crisis.

The conference will commence at 10.30 am in the Clarion Hotel, IFSC, Dublin and the draft Conference Programme is attached. TEEB team members will present their findings in a plenary session.  This will be followed by workshop sessions which will consider the transferability of TEEB approach, findings and recommendations to Ireland and produce recommendations and ideas for next steps.

In order to reserve a place at this conference, please complete the Conference Registration Form in the Events section of the website. The closing date for receipt of completed Registration Forms is Friday 11th June 2010.  As places are limited, please register before this date to secure a place.
